Sandwich Making 101

sandwich making
Sandwiches are enjoyed year round, but in the summer it seems customers gravitate towards them because they are quick and light, yet satisfying. Introducing great sandwiches to your menu is easy. Below you will find products and suggestions to make your sandwich category really take off this summer!

It Starts With The Protein...
When customers order a sandwich they make the decision based on the protein. Offer a good selection and creative combinations to help set you apart from the crowd!
Below you will find protein suggestions found at Findlay Foods.

Chicken breast, roast chicken, breaded chicken, deli chicken.
Roast turkey, deli style turkey.

Bacon, peameal bacon, roast pork, pulled pork, roast ham, deli style ham, sausages.
Fresh roast beef, sliced steak, deli style beef, smoked meat, corned beef, ground beef.

Shrimp, crab, lobster, tuna, salmon, other species of fish (grilled or baked)
Salami (capicola, genoa, proscuitto, calabrese, saucisson sec, northern or any flavoured salami)
The Carrier Plays A Big Part!
 types of bread
The breads you choose to hold your sandwiches together are so important. They should not only work as a carrier, but offer wonderful texture and flavour to your sandwich.
They also need to hold up to the ingredients inside... nobody wants a soggy sandwich!

Consider choosing a flavoured bread such as; rosemary focaccia (38313), olive and rosemary (38365), pretzel buns (36626) with a sweet / salty flavour or the brioche bun (36647) with a sweet buttery flavour.

If you are warming, grilling or using a panini press some carriers work better than others. My top picks for grilling, or a panini press... Flour tortillas (01173), rustic potato panini (36317),  swiss panini bun (38352).
Top picks for warming...
Pita bread (36332), 12 grain artisan soft bun (36451), ciabatta corta (36642).

Cheese Please...
tyupes of cheese
Ham & cheese is a classic... However, I suggest mixing it up by offering brie (20610), provolone (20611) or jalapeno havarti (20640). Feta cheese(20658), goat cheese (20661), mini bocconcini (20633) or blue cheese (20605) add a welcome change to a wrap, no mess and all the flavour!
Try these combinations below:

Calabrese Wrap;  Flour tortilla, sliced tomatoes, mini bocconcini and fresh basil. Serve it cold or grilled.

Loaded Grilled Cheese Sandwich; Brie, old cheddar, sautéed onions and mushrooms.
Spicy Beef Melt; Sliced beef, jalapeno havarti, hot pepper rings and shredded cheddar. Serve it grilled.
Bring On The Veggies!!
Lettuce and tomatoes are wonderful, but why not try something different... Spinach, kale, arugula, fennel, cucumber slices, fresh peppers, artichoke, avocado, roasted red peppers, roasted eggplant, onions, mushrooms, pickled beets, dill pickles, hot pickled peppers, capers, olives (black or green) and fresh herbs.
Sauce It Up! Spice It Up!
Adding a spread, sauce or spice to your sandwich will give it that final touch of flavour, making it perfection!  Mayonnaise, flavoured mayo, various mustards, various pestos, various relishes, hummus (flavoured or not), tzatziki, sour cream, salad dressings, salsa, guacamole, horseradish, sweet chili Thai sauce, BBQ sauces, hot sauces, chutneys, fruit preserves, apple sauce and tartar sauce to name a few.... And spices... well Findlay Foods has a wide variety to choose from, let us know what you need!
